Getting Started

How do I create an account?

When you first open Shot of the Dark, you'll be guided through a simple onboarding process. Tap "Create Account" and enter your email address and a password (minimum 6 characters). That's it!

Can I use the app without creating an account?

An account is required to use Shot of the Dark. This allows us to sync your coffee journal across devices and ensure you never lose your data.

How do I log my first coffee?

From the home screen, tap the "+" button at the bottom of the screen. You can choose Quick Log for a fast entry (just name and rating) or Pro Log for detailed information including brew method, tasting notes, and more.

Subscriptions

What's included in the free tier?

The Starter (free) tier includes:

  • Up to 10 coffee logs per month

  • Basic ratings and notes

  • Streak tracking

What do I get with Enthusiast?

Enthusiast ($2.99/month or $23.99/year) includes:

  • Unlimited coffee logs

  • Flavor profiles

  • Brew recipes and ratios

  • Brew timer

  • Basic analytics

What do I get with Connoisseur?

Connoisseur ($5.99/month or $47.99/year) includes everything in Enthusiast, plus:

  • SCA professional cupping scores

  • Export your data as CSV

  • Advanced analytics and insights

How do I change or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through the App Store:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone

  2. Tap your name at the top

  3. Tap "Subscriptions"

  4. Find Shot of the Dark and tap it

  5. Choose a different plan or tap "Cancel Subscription"

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. To request a refund:

  1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com

  2. Sign in with your Apple ID

  3. Find the Shot of the Dark purchase

  4. Select "Request a refund"

Using the App

How do recommendations work?

After logging 5 coffees, Shot of the Dark will start providing personalized recommendations based on your taste preferences, favorite origins, and brew methods.

Can I edit or delete a coffee log?

Yes! Go to your Collection, tap on any coffee entry, and you'll see options to edit or delete it.

How do I mark a coffee as a favorite?

When viewing a coffee in your collection, tap the heart icon to add it to your favorites.

Data & Privacy

Is my data safe?

Yes! Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption. We use Supabase, a trusted cloud provider with SOC 2 Type II compliance.

Can I export my data?

Connoisseur subscribers can export all their coffee logs as a CSV file. Go to Profile > Export Data.

How do I delete my account?

To permanently delete your account and all associated data, please contact us at shotofthedarkapp@gmail.com with the subject line "Account Deletion Request."

Do you sell my data?

No. We never sell your personal information to third parties. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Troubleshooting

The app is crashing or not working properly

Try these steps:

  1. Force close the app and reopen it

  2. Check for app updates in the App Store

  3. Restart your device

  4. If the problem persists, contact us

I'm not receiving notifications

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications > Shot of the Dark

  2. Make sure notifications are enabled

  3. Check that you've enabled notifications within the app (Profile > Settings)

I was charged but don't have premium features

  1. Try restoring purchases: Profile > Subscription > Restore Purchases

  2. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID used for the purchase

  3. If the issue persists, contact us with your Apple receipt

Technical Requirements

What devices are supported?

Shot of the Dark requires:

  • iPhone running iOS 16.0 or later

  • iPad running iPadOS 16.0 or later

How much storage does the app use?

The app itself is approximately 50MB. Your data is stored in the cloud, so local storage usage is minimal.

Does the app work offline?

Shot of the Dark requires an internet connection to sync your data. Some features may be limited when offline.
